Rvger is the epitome of creative design in urban streetwear. The brand was founded in 2018, and since its arrival on the scene, it has taken the industry by storm. Various celebrities have spotted the various Rvger designs proudly all over their social media and music videos.
But what made this brand so big?
The earliest Rvger designs featured three of the most iconic figures in all of black entertainment industry. These faces were none other than the late “Fela Anikpulakpo Kuti”, the king of Reggae “Bob Marley” and “2pac”. Underneath the shirt was the inscription, “Here’s to the ones that who surf their own wave”. That particular line of T-shirts once dropped became a straight hit. It was spotted by the likes of “Burnaboy” at his show, “Peruzzi”, “Ycee”, “Skibii”, “Pocolee” and others. Riding off the wave of success, the brand continued to dominate the scene with its outlandish designs until something memorable happened that took the brand to a whole new level of popularity.
So what happened?
October 20, 2020, happened. Stylized as 20-10-2020 the day Nigeria would never forget. The day the Nigerian Government turned its back on its citizens turning the Lekki toll gate into a horrid scene. This is a little backstory for the people reading this who may not be aware of the tragedy that went down that day. Days leading up to 20-10-2020, the youth of Nigeria flooded the streets to fight against police brutality and oppression from a particular branch of police called SARS (Special Anti-Robbery Squad). The protest #EndSARS shook the Government and the country as a whole. People from all over the country were out in the streets protesting for a better Government and an end to the oppression. Things took a turn on that tragic day when army officials stormed the protest grounds and shot at protesters resulting in the loss of many lives.
In what you can call a breakthrough moment for the brand, RVGER responded with a “Toll Gate” T-shirt, that captures the protest and forever immortalize the souls lost during the protest. The T-shirt was so revolutionary that everyone wanted one. Artists like “Davido”, “Patorankning”, “Oxlade”, and so many more were seen rocking this t-shirt in memory of the fallen souls. This line of shirts really put the brand name out there and is rumoured to be their bestselling shirt ever.
You can grab this T-shirt on PrideX.
Currently on sale as of the time of this article.
They didn’t stop there. Shortly after, another collection dropped, “Anarchy”. This had an A on the front of the T-shirt inspiring people to revolt, resist, refuse, and rebel. This line was spotted by “Rema” in his “Ginger Me” music video. A great look for the brand if you ask me.
What is next for Rvger?
Rvger constantly has their fans guessing what they would come up with next.
